5 Ways to Organically Grow Your Instagram

Before I jump in to my top 5 tips for building your instagram following, I just wanted to preface by saying that the number of followers you have does not define your worth and value. You were made in the image of God, and therefore have inherent value. DO NOT compare yourself or your growth with others. We are all on our own paths, and whether you have 10 followers, 10,000 followers, or 100,000 followers, you have a responsibility to the people following along with you to be authentically you and to allow them the opportunity of accepting and loving you as you are. Everyone is putting their best foot forward, and there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with that, but it’s so so important (especially if your business is heavily influenced by Instagram) to remember that you are only getting a very TINY look into that person’s life. You don’t know what their struggles are, what they’ve been through, or what they will go through. We all have unique stories and unique paths and that is a beautiful thing that should be embraced fully.

Now. I’ll get off my soap box and give ya the good stuff:)

Be consistent with your style and the way you are editing your photos. Find your style and STICK WITH IT. Post consistently. Try and post everyday. The instagram algorithm will boost your content if you are posting consistently. Be consistent with your voice as well. Don’t try to sound like someone you’re not in your captions or in your stories. Be consistent with your content. If you are a food blogger and randomly start talking about interior design, that could throw your followers off.

This is probably the most important, in my opinion. People don’t want to see “perfect,” they want to see YOU. Don’t be afraid to be yourself, for fear people won’t like what they see. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable or to share some of the hard things too. People can connect and relate with another flawed human being- not a “perfect” one who seems to have it all together. If you are weird and quirky, GREAT, let that show. If you are shy and sometimes get social anxiety, don’t be afraid to show that. Chances are, lots of people out there are the same way, and they will relate and find comfort in knowing they aren’t alone. Being yourself allows others to follow along with you because they genuinely LIKE YOU- not who you are trying to make yourself appear to be.

If someone comments on your post, comment back. And then, maybe go comment on a couple of their posts. If you notice there is someone who always likes your posts and engages with your stories, hop on over to their account and share the love. When you’re mindlessly scrolling through your feed, go ahead and actually double- tap on a few of the images you’re looking at. I will be the first to admit, that I will “like” something in my head while scrolling but totally forget to actually double- tap it and let that person know I’m a fan of what they’re doing. But join me in being better at spreading some love and encouragement to others, instead of just wanting to be on the receiving end.

Here is a super simple tip. Want people to engage with your posts? Give them the opportunity to. Ask questions they can comment answers to. Create community by saying things like “double-tap if ya love Taco Bell as much as me” or “double-tap if you were freaking out on last night’s episode of the bachelor.” Those are little ways to get people to resonate with what you’re saying and for people to engage with your post because they’re like “OH ME TOO.” As I mentioned above, don’t try to sound cool in your captions- just speak like you would to a friend. Be yourself, share honestly, give your audience content they want, and you are sure to see a boost in your engagement.

Don’t know why your audience follows along with you or what they are most interested in? Luckily, Instagram has created nifty tools like the question box and polls. Ask your audience what they want to see more of. Ask them why they follow you. And also, look at your most engaged-with posts (aka the most likes + comments). Odds are, the posts that get the most love are they ones your followers want to see more of. Find out what your thing is and create more and more ways that you can deliver that to your followers.

Take these small steps toward creating a more honest and authentic space on your social platform and I promise you will start to see results. Care more about using your platform for connecting with others and for creating a positive space than getting more likes and followers. Care more about inspiring and encouraging others than gaining popularity. Care more about giving than receiving.

Okay friends, that’s all! I hope these tips help ya and as always, let me know how I can continue serve you guys and give ya content you want:)

Much love.

Do NOT, under ANY circumstances buy followers!! This is the #1 way you will limit your growth and not only that, it’s dishonest. I could go on and on about all the reasons why logistically and morally this is wrong, but for the sake of time, just take my word for it.
